Second Week Reflection


This second week felt very repetitive as I continued to work on the information gathering and writing phase of my project even a week after I thought it would be done. This project has surprised me every day, because of how it has made me constantly change my approach each day. At first, I thought I would have a concrete schedule to get me through this project, but this was debunked very quickly as I had realized that the project does not go according to plan and needs to be done from what is needed. Second, I had thought I would be able to do this project all by myself, but I realized that if I wanted a good finished project, I would need professional help. Also, I constantly had to gather new information all the way until the end of the second week, sometimes using drastic methods to do so.

I realized throughout this project that I could not do the work all on my own, and If I wanted a good, neat, and professional finished project, I realized that I would have to reach out for help from adults. Luckily, the connections I had from my parents' friends were more than sufficient to help me with this project. I contacted a professional designer, who would greatly help me with the designing components of the project, and a copy editor, who would help change the writing I had. The reason I needed a copy editor for this project was because I am very used to writing essays, which my writing greatly reflected. The copy editor helped me change the writing into a style that better fits the project.

I had to stake out students to gain information from students that I needed at the very last minute. Once I thought I had enough information, I would go through the writing process, and realized I was missing a vital piece that I would have to add in, so I had to go to drastic measures to come across this piece of information. I would go up to students in between classes and at lunch just to get one quote that I needed, which taught me an important lesson on how to get the things I need as soon as possible.

Blog #1 Monday, May 8th

Today I was exhausted, so I took the liberty of sleeping in until 10:30. After a quick shower, I headed over to the library at 11 to do some initial planning work. I was able to come up with a good day-by-day plan to get this project done and also started creating a survey for underclassmen to fill out with a ten-dollar Jakes reward. I asked them specific questions about student life, sports, dorming, and academics. I worked from 11 am to 12 in the library and then got some lunch and sat in the sun until 1 pm. After that break, I went back to my room to get some more work done on creating the survey and prepared questions for an interview with a senior friend in the dorm. I worked from 1 pm to 4 pm in my room, and I then left after to go to the gym for Weightroom. After I complete this blog, I plan to send out the survey for underclassmen and do another hour of work from 8 to 9 pm. Blog #2: Tuesday, May 9th

 Today was a much more relaxing day than yesterday. I started my work day at 11 am, which was the same as the day before. I checked the results from the survey I sent out and was disappointed to find out that only 33 people had responded. I will most likely send a follow-up email tonight telling students their last chance to fill out the form will be tonight. I spent a lot of time today coming up with questions and creating and finishing a solid interview plan to get students' opinions. I also spent some time reviewing the data that had come through from the survey. From that information, I was able to get a good basis of what I would like to write. I wanted today to be one of the last steps of the information-gathering phase, so I can start getting more writing done that might be used in the actual blog. Blog #14: Tuesday May 23rd

 Today marked the final moments of the project. I took the printed versions of the pamphlet to the art room and cut out multiple versions until I had three that I really liked. It took a lot of attempts to cut and fold the pamphlet out until I got the hang of it, and cut three very nice versions out all in a row. I was super pleased to see how it looked when properly cut out, folded, and on nicer paper than just sheet paper. I spent a lot of hours into this project and I am very proud with how it turned out. I learned a lot about working with other people and getting a professional project done. If I could do this project again, I wouldn't do a lot differently, as I believe my process was very thorough and good, but I would change a few things. First of all, I would have been more aggressive about getting information, as I found that I had a lot of holes that I had to fill in the later days of the project.
